We are more at risk of epidemics now than at any other time in human history. Urbanization, global travel, conflict, poverty, population growth and climate change are all compounding factors in the spread of infectious disease. Countries with solid health systems are able to deal with effectively manage outbreaks however in countries with weak or non-existent health systems these diseases often go undetected or untreated.
Once one person is infected the whole human population is at risk. We need to address gaps in the health system which allow the spread of disease.
More funding is needed for low and middle income countries for health systems strengthening to ensure everyone is protected from epidemics. These countries can’t do it on their own – other countries must support them.
Please add your name below and call on your government to invest more in health systems in the poorest regions that will protect us all from the threat of epidemics.
